Welcome

about me and my art

hina · she/her · 28 · german · infp

Hello there!
Name's Hina, a hobby artist in her twenties who loves to draw
whatever makes her happy - in the slowest way possible. My style is home mostly in the anime/cartoon category, enjoying character design as well as fanart of my favorite shows or games. I indulge in romantic fantasy settings, mature themes, cute vantities and yet some tastful erotism as well. There's always more things to explore.
Check out my platforms below if you are interested or want to get
in contact with me. I'll see you there! Hope you enjoy my content.
Have a great day!

Let me get one thing straight:
I do not care what you create, what you consume or how you choose to experience fandom or general media in your own spaces.
I will not judge you as a person based on that, even tho I might
disagree with you and choose not to interact with you.
You have your business, I have mine.
However!
I do care about how you treat the people around you and in what way you choose to approach me, others or certain topics.

I won't allow...

Anyone who thinks that harassment is ever appropriate
bigotry · racism · sexism · any form of extremism ·
MAPs · NoMAPs
Anti-vaxxers · Conspiracy Theorists
antis · puritans · fandom police
ship wars · character- and ship hate
kinkshaming
Reposters who neither credit nor ask for permission ·
Anyone who wants to dictate what others consume or create ·
Anyone that mindlessly generalizes people. I don't care which group of people it is
... and anyone who is simply not able to treat others with basic human decency.

I refuse to interact any longer with people that would fall onto this list.
It's mostly a waste of time to argue and my mental health suffers from that as well.
I respect anyone that respects me too, and I'm still open for civil discussions.
However, if someone fails to do that with respect and just wants to attack and harass me etc. I will just block and move on.
I grant everyone their freedom of speech and expression, but I'm not obligated to give anyone a platform, especially not if someone only wants to start a fight.

Welcome to the Q&A section!
Is there a question missing you would like to have answered?

Why am I blocked?

I have used tools like Block Lists and MegaBlock for twitter before that allow me to block multiple people at once based on multiple criteria. So it could have happened that you simply got caught in that.
I block accounts quite easily and don't really differentiate between hard- and sortblocking, but I guess you could say that I softblock a lot of people, simply because of weird vibes or they got caught in the net. I don't take it too seriously and in most cases, it's not personal at all.
If you think that you don't fall under any of my DNI-points and think that I accidentally or unfairly blocked you, you can reach me on my other linked socials.

Where did you learn how to draw?

Well, I’ve been to something like an art school for two years where different ways of design were brought to the students. Such as print, typography, still lifes and so on. Not all that intense and not very long, but a big variety of different art forms.
But I think every artist out there is self-taught to some degree. I don’t really believe in talent. Nothing is just given to you. But the interest in those things and your dedication, practice, time and a little discipline plays a huge role. My mother always says ”If you do something 10,000 times, you will become good in that thing.”
I’m far from being a ’professional artist’, I’m only doing it for mindless fun. I’ve never really dedicated my time to do some studies or technical practice etc, which I recommend you to do nonetheless haha!
But yea. The higher your dedication, the quicker you will improve, in whatever you do!

Can you give me some art tips?

Like I said, I don’t really practice what I preach haha!
But I will try to give some advice:
[References!]
Never be afraid to use as many as you want, for everything you need!
No matter if it’s a pose, a table, a landscape, whatever. References still seem to have that stigma of being “cheating material.” But that is absolutely not true.
Don’t think that you would only be a “professional” if you don’t need references.
Absolutely no one would expect from you to do anything out of your head alone. So why would you expect that from yourself?
References aren't crutches. They are the basis that our art originates from.
[Don't just practice, learn how to practice]
My mother isn't wrong when she says ”If you do something 10,000 times, you will become good in that thing”, but repeating alone won't get you where you want to be and you might just be repeating the mistakes.
If you want to actively get better at your craft, the first step would be to set yourself a first goal to work towards. For example, drawing hands better, hair, clouds, face angles etc. One thing that you want to concentrate on.
And then you try to pinpoint what exactly your struggle and mistakes are. What is it that needs to be improved? Where are the mistakes? The position and shapes of the fingers? The perspective of the nose? Do you need more flow in your lines?
Find your mistakes and work on how to fix them.
I highly recommend the videos of Ethan Becker on YouTube!
He is very good in dismantling the art of all different kinds of artist in their fundamentals and analyse them.
Also his overall tips on how to productively improve your practice are very good.
Check him out!
[Your reality is your best teacher]
Everything we create is a combination, alteration, reduction. exaggeration etc. from the things we already know and see in our day-to-day life. No matter if you create an alien species or something abstract.
So take your time to observe your reality when you have the time or when you need it. Watch how your sweater wrinkles up on your elbows, how your finger look when you bend them, how a metal piece reflects the light and so on.
The moment you understand how something works or behaves, you can illustrate it however you want and make it feel real.
[Don’t compare yourself to others!]
It’s a bad habit to have and something that I need to stop myself. Because nothing comes of it, only dissatisfaction and frustration.
There’s nothing wrong with being inspired by others and trying things out that you saw somewhere else. But downplaying your art because someone might be better than you is not constructive in any way. There will always be someone better and worse than you. Art skill is nothing linear, it doesn’t matter how old someone is or how long you or they have been drawing.
You will get there too. I promise. But you gotta do it.
[Don’t draw for others]
With that I mean don’t think about what others would expect of you to produce, but only what you want to. If you think that your art is sometimes not for the public eye or could be sensitive for some people, either keep it to yourself or share it on a second account with content warnings.
That sounds like a basic advice and it may be one. But getting stuck in a fandom or any other box can happen without you noticing. Also because we value likes and followers more than we would admit. Not to mention that there are also people out there who can get nasty over drawings that they don’t like.
So always put your interests and muses first!
[Learning never ends]
So don’t seek for like the ultimate goal that can be reached, because there is none. Everyone can always learn something different, overcome personal obstacles or invent yourself completely new again. And there’s no end to it, only new paths to venture.
[Breaks are important]
Not just breaks during a day, but sometimes weeks of not drawing anything.
Don’t feel guilty about it or fear that you won’t be able to draw ever again. You are not a machine that needs to function every day and every hour. Especially when it’s a creative activity.
Self care is crucial!
That’s about anything that I can tell you off the top of my head. Just enjoy yourself!

What programms do you use?

I use ClipStudio Paint and a Wacom Tablet.

Do you offer commissions?

Every now and then, yes. Not regularly.
I always had a difficult relationship with drawing for money. I just don't work so well with deadlines and pressure (that I mostly put on myself). But my hopes for that are way higher now since my latest attempt on offering commissions was a surprising success.
So just keep your eyes open for the occasional slots that I open.
